September 19, 2019 Meeting
Please remember to join us for our September Meeting. This will be a lunch meeting at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille on Thursday, September 19, 2019 with registration/socialization beginning at 11:30 am.
The details for the meeting are as follows:
Topic: An Overview of Geosynthetic Applications and Innovations
Maybe because of its relatively recent evolution, or maybe due to the difficulty of substituting classic well known methods with innovations, geosynthetic solutions are not in every engineer’s toolbox, despite their versatility. We think that many routinely encountered, as well as special engineering challenges, can be economically solved through the application of geosynthetics. Please join us to learn about the current practice with geosynthetics for well-established, innovative and potential future applications.
Presenter: Lilma Schimmel, P.E. - UNC Charlotte Civil Engineering Instructor/Engineering Department Head at HUESKER Inc. in Charlotte
Lilma Schimmel is a professional engineer with over 16 years of experience in civil and geotechnical engineering.
Currently, Ms. Schimmel is the Engineering Department Head for HUESKER Inc, a manufacturer of geosynthetics. Her roles include providing design and technical support to customers and sales managers, researching and development of existing and new products, supporting market growth, supervising and leading engineers, managing testing for design parameters, coordinating production of customized products with plant manager, coordination of engineering matters and communication with the headquarters. Ms. Schimmel is involved with a myriad of geosynthetic applications like soil reinforcement, dewatering, erosion control, among others. She is deeply interested in the study, development and dissemination of construction techniques that employ the use of geosynthetics.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Universidade Presbeteriana Mackenzie, Sao Paulo, Brazil and a Master of Science degree in Engineering, University of Delaware, Newark, DE.
